Description
The aim of this module is to give students an understanding of the role of cell culture in bioprocessing engineering. It will outline the basic cellular processes that are of relevance to bioprocessing and provide information about the key criteria to be considered for scale-up of a process.
|
Learning Outcomes
1. Gain critical awareness of the different types of cell culture technologies. 2. Gain a systematic understanding of the criteria for consideration for scale up of cell culture. 3. Gain advanced knowledge to identify the appropriate cell model for a large scale process. 4. Gain critical awareness of recent developments in cell and tissue engineering. 5. Gain a systematic understanding to identify key criteria for a successful cell bank.

Loop Quiz | This loop quiz will consist of a series of problem- or challenge-based MCQs to address the students' critical understanding of the curriculum by MCQs that specifically address the students' knowledge of one specific area and use it in another area; sample questions will be provided to students in advance of the exam. | 40% | Week 10 | Essay | The students will be asked to critically address a specific question in a concise manner through submission of a short essay (~1500 words). The assignment will be due in week 13. | 60% | Sem 1 End |
Reassessment Requirement Type |
Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories:
Resit category 1: A resit is available for both* components of the module.
Resit category 2: No resit is available for a 100% continuous assessment module.
Resit category 3: No resit is available for the continuous assessment component where there is a continuous assessment and examination element. |
* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a Continuous Assessment/Examination split; where the module is 100% continuous assessment, there will also be a resit of the assessment |
Resit category for this module is temporarily unavailable
