Description

This module introduces more advanced aspects of web design. Students wil gain an understanding of semantic markup, CSS3, and including Javascript in web pages. Students will also gain an appreciation of reusable components, user experience and accessibility.

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the role of HTML in the creation of web-based user interfaces
2. Understand the role of CSS3 in the creation of web-based user interfaces
3. Apply problem-solving techniques to the design and creation of well-structured web pages.
4. Become familiar with the concepts of user experience
5. Gain an understanding of designing with accessibility in mind.
6. Develop an understanding of the process of creating a component-based web page through individual and/or team-based projects.

Understanding contexts of use. Designing for different devices.

Advanced HTML
Use of proper semantic mark-up. Use of appropriate navigational tags. using sectional and other HTML tags. Understanding the HTML Document Object Model and Outline Algorithm

CSS3
Use of Flex-box Use of Grid. Applying Responsive Design Techniques to facilitate use on different devices and in different contexts.

JavaScript
When to use, and when not to use, Javascript. Using Javascript to add interaction to web-pages.

Accessibility
Understanding WCAG2.1 Evaluating Websites for compliance with WCAG2.1 Automated and human testing and evaluation.

Forms
Creating semantically correct and usable forms. using appropriate advanced HTML elements. Styling forms with CSS3.
