Description

In this module, postgraduate research students will develop and apply the skills required for presenting and publishing their own research. The module covers the presentation of results in poster or oral format at a conference, as well as submission for publication as a paper in a journal.

Learning Outcomes

1. Interpret experimental results in the context of their impact on the state-of-the-art in a particular field
2. Evaluate results for potential publication or presentation
3. Formulate a hypothesis/hypotheses for the publication/presentation
4. Concisely present and critically discuss research highlights that can prove/disprove the hypotheses
5. Draw conclusions on the work and articulate the significance of the research in the wider context
6. Identify a journal, conference or workshop with appropriate scope for publication of the work
7. Format a manuscript/presentation to meet formatting standards set out by the publisher

Assignment1. Reflective Journal: Students must submit an online reflective journal or blog, tracking the development of their paper/presentation. This documentation will be submitted to an assessment panel which will comprise 3 members of staff with appropriate domain knowledge to assess the topic. and this will count as 80% of the total coursework.80%
Assignment2. Other: Student must either: (1) submit and have accepted a piece of research in a peer-reviewed journal OR (2) orally present their research at a conference or workshop. The dissemination documentation will be submitted to the assessment panel which will comprise 3 members of staff with appropriate domain knowledge to assess the topic, and this will count as 20% of the total coursework."20%
