Description

This module introduces second year students to the theoretical basis and applied production practices of Instructional Design. The course covers foundations in key educational theories and learning approaches, as well as contemporary evaluative and design practices for the creation of accessible and effective instructional media resources.

Learning Outcomes

1. Development of knowledge on models of learning and theories of education
2. Development of critical analysis of instructional and educational media forms
3. Development of skills in evaluating and testing efficacy of instructive media
4. Acquisition of design and production skills necessary to create accessible and effective rich-media instructional materials
5. Development of established project design and management practices for creation of instructive media resources (ADDIE)

Course Work Breakdown
Professional Portfolio	Students must individually complete a portfolio of five assigned tasks, linked to module content in five of the semester weeks, and designed to promote independent learning and review of key topics. This component is pass/fail, based on satisfactory completion of at least 4 elements.	10%	Every Second Week
Project	Students, in pairs, must complete and present an evaluative report of a chosen contemporary instructional or educational app, based on the theoretical framings and evaluative structures covered in the early module weeks.	30%	Week 10
Group project	Students, in groups of 3, must design, complete, and evaluate a prototype instructional media resource for a specific target group. The project entails media production, reporting, and user testing process, and includes peer review.	60%	n/a
