Description

We are acutely aware that many of our MEd students have not engaged in the process of academic writing since they completed their undergraduate degrees. In this module there will be an opportunity to consider how our teaching, our learning/eLearning, professional practice and our students' learning can become the focus of some form of sustained inquiry and investigation. Participants will being to explore academic writing in-depth noting what sets it apart and be guided in embracing a more critical stance to their writing and engagement with research, hone their written and oral communications skills through writing practice.. In the module we examine the principles of academic writing and the skills of information literacy and focus on how to write and present a paper and a paper for assessment or review. The aims of this module are: - To explore samples of academic writing with a view to analysing the linguistic, stylistic and contextual features which characterize these texts and to provide practice in the writing of an academic piece- To give students the opportunity to become more confident and discerning users of information and to equip them with the necessary skills to locate, evaluate and use information effectively to the benefit of their academic studies; and to become critical thinkers, creators and users of information - To support participants to prepare and present an academic paper in a selected area of practice
