Description

This module focuses on rational choice theory versus behavioural economics, consumer theory, producer theory and market structures. Concepts will be discussed intuitively, graphically and mathematically

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the difference between conventional economics and behavioural economics.
2. Explain how consumers with limited incomes choose between competing alternatives.
3. Discuss the basic economic theory of the firm.
4. Analyze the production decisions of profit maximising and cost minimising firms.
5. Explain the following market structures: perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition and oligopoly.
