Description

To equip student teachers with the ability to define, create and maintain an effective learning environment. To introduce students to contemporary approaches in a range of teaching & learning skills. To develop confidence in a range of initial teaching skills through reviews, analysis, demonstration, peer coaching and guided feedback To provide students with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the content and assessment methodology of the Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle curricula in CSPE in second-level schools. All students are required to participate in Micro-teaching as part of this module.

Learning Outcomes

1. Critically evaluate and critique a range of teaching methods relevant in CSPE
2. Generate student centred lessons which promote effective learning.
3. Critically analyse how students learn and compare and contrast effective teaching methods to support and scaffold this learning.
4. Articulate a critical awareness of a variety of pedagogical theories and practices that enable and enhance classroom management.
5. Formulate pedagogically proficient lessons in CSPE for delivery in post-primary schools.
6. Integrate ICT appropriately and effectively into the delivery of CSPE.
7. Utilise a variety of differentiation strategies in lesson planning to devise effective and inclusive lessons in CSPE.
8. Critically evaluate the theoretical and practical implications of choosing and applying a particular research method such as action research or observation in the classroom setting
9. Evaluate empirical and theoretical research in this domain
10. Demonstrate a capacity to promote numeracy and literacy in relation to subject discipline.
