Tá sé mar aidhm ag an modúl seo forléargas a thabhairt do na mic léinn ar na suíomhanna sochtheangeolaíochta ina n-úsáidtear an Ghaeilge agus scileanna a thabhairt dóibh a ligfidh dóibh feidhmiú go héifeachtach sna suíomhanna sin. Baineann gnéithe teoiriciúla agus feidhmeacha araon leis an modúl seo. Beidh ar mhic léinn dul i ngleic le hábhar acadúil maidir le comhthéacs sochtheangeolaíochta na Gaeilge. Chomh maith leis sin beidh ar mhic léinn scileanna cumarsáide agus teanga a fhorbairt a chuirfidh ar gcumas a bheith ag obair i suíomh inarb í an Ghaeilge an meán teagaisc nó an teanga oibre. / The aim of this module is to give students an overview of the sociolinguistic contexts in which Irish is used, and, to give students the skills to function effectively in those contexts. There is a theoretical component to the course as well as a practical component. Students will engage with academic material on the sociolinguistic context of Irish. Students will also develop their language and communication skills to allow them to work in a situation where Irish is the language of instruction or the language in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

1. idirdhealú a dhéanamh idir comhthéacsanna ina mbíonn an Ghaeilge á húsáid ag duine aonair nó ag pobail agus plé a dhéanamh ar na saintréithe a bhaineann leis na comhthéacsanna sin; / differentiate between the different contexts in which Irish is used by an individual or by a community and be able to discuss the characteristics of those contexts.
2. plé a dhéanamh ar ról na Gaeilge i sochaí ilteangach agus ilchultúrtha na hÉireann sa lá atá inniu ann; / discuss the role of Irish in multilingual and multicultural modern Irish society.
3. tuiscint a léiriú ar réimeanna éagsúla teanga agus téacs nó aschur eile a chruthú, mar shampla: tuairiscí; fógraí agus áiseanna teagaisc / demonstrate an understanding of language registers and be able apply that understanding to create content such as reports, announcements and teaching materials.
4. cur síos a dhéanamh ar na háiseanna agus na bogearraí teanga atá ar fáil don Ghaeilge agus iad a úsáid go héifeachtach i gcomthéacsanna éagsúla; / describe the language resources and software that are available for Irish and be able to use those resources in various contexts.
5. an tábhacht a bhaineann le taighde leanúnach i réimse na sochtheangeolaíochta a aithint; / recognise the importance of continuing sociolinguistic research
6. an tábhacht a bhaineann le hoiliúint agus le foghlaim leanúnach maidir leis na háiseanna agus bogearraí teanga atá ar fáil. / recognise the importance of continual education and training in language software and resources.
