Is é aidhm an mhodúil seo ceisteanna an dátheangachais sa duine aonair agus sa tsochaí a chíoradh. Díreofar ar úsáid agus foghlaim na Gaeilge go stairiúil agus sa lá atá inniu ann mar chás-staidéir do na feiniméin seo. Lena chois sin, pléifear bunús agus torthaí iarrachtaí éagsúla an Ghaeilge a athneartú le céad go leith bliain anuas. Trí léachtaí agus plé idirghníomhach sa rang, déanfar plé ar chúig thopaic sa chúrsa: (1) na coincheapa is lárnaí sa taighde ar an dátheangachas (idir thaighde sochtheangeolaíoch agus taighde síctheangeolaíoch); (2) an dátheangachas in Éirínn go stairiúil agus sa lá atá inniu ann; (3) ról an chórais oideachais i gcothú agus i mbuanú na Gaeilge; (4) ról na n-ealaíon dúchasach in athbheochan na teanga; (5) ionad na Gaeilge i sochaí ilteangach agus ilchultúrtha na hÉireann. Chomh maith leis na léachtaí, beidh fáil ag na mic léinn ar réimse leathan acmhainní foghlama ilmheáin ar leathanaigh LOOP an chúrsa.

4. Tuiscint a léiriú ar na haidhmeanna a bhí taobh thiar de straitéisí an rialtais agus an chórais oideachais i dtaobh chur chun cinn na Gaeilge
5. Téarmaíocht an dátheangachais a thuiscint i gcomhthéacs na sochtheangeolaíochta agus na síctheangeolaíochta
