Description

This module is offered online to Global Business (EBF) students during the 12 teaching weeks of semester 2, year 2, while they are on their work placement (INTRA). Its purpose is to further develop students‘ fluency and accuracy in French as well as to improve their comprehension of both written and spoken French. It will also deepen students‘ knowledge of business French vocabulary and concepts in preparation for the study of business in France.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate good grammatical control in spoken and written production; non-systematic errors and minor flaws may still occur but they are rare and can often be corrected in retrospect.
2. Demonstrate a good range of vocabulary for matters connected to the field of international business.
3. Source credible, reliable and complex information in the target language.
4. Write about a business-related topic with reasonable precision and fluency.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Focus and Content
There will be a particular focus on business French and business French vocabulary and concepts. The module will cover the following topics in particular: 1. International relations, particularly Franco-Irish trade relations and foreign trade. 2. Market research and the Marketing-Mix (Product, Place, Price, Promotion) 3. Intercultural communication, in particular, for intercultural business. The module will also build on the grammar work carried out in module FR295 by consolidating students understanding of core grammar topics and introducing new grammar elements. The materials for this module will be provided on its LOOP page on a weekly basis.
