Description

The aim of this module is to prepare students to be able to use French language naturally and appropriately in any situations, either at work, in social gatherings or in everyday life. In order to do this, based on the principles of content & language integrated learning, the module will focus on developing every language skill: listening, reading, speaking, writing and intercultural skill. This will be done through the exploration of two main topics: current affairs from French speaking countries, and the future of our world. Students are expected to work towards attaining a high level of oral and written fluency and accuracy in all situations. They will have to attend all sessions and to participate fully in the proposed learning activities, either individually or in groups, with their classmates and also with native French speakers through online telecollaboration.

Learning Outcomes

1. understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, conversations, multimodal documents, and recognise implicit meaning.
2. express him/herself effectively and spontaneously without too much obvious searching for expressions for social, academic and professional purposes.
3. produce clear, well-structured, detailed arguments, both written and orally on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
4. easily follow most lectures, complex interactions between third parties, native and non-native speakers, in group discussion and debate, even on unfamiliar topics.
5. express personal opinions on a complex topic in an interactive manner in oral discussions to a specialised audience with a level of fluency and accuracy appropriate for this level. Can handle interjections well, responding spontaneously and almost effortlessly in said interactions.
6. demonstrate reflective and critical thinking on the topics covered throughout the module and also on the tasks carried out individually and with peers in the target language.
7. make effective use of digital tools and resources for the purpose of language learning.
