Description

This module is designed for students who have studied German to Leaving Certificate level or equivalent. The materials are drawn from levels A2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The module is conducted predominantly through German. Throughout the semester, students will perform individual and collaborative tasks to develop their confidence and competence in spoken and written production as well as interaction through German.

Learning Outcomes

1. Extract information from a range of different written materials such as newspapers and websites on familiar subjects, such as everyday life, university life, interests, travel, current affairs, etc.
2. Produce written pieces on topics of interest and give his/her opinion on familiar matters.
3. Communicate orally and in an intelligible manner, on familiar topics related to his/her interests.
4. Show a good degree of grammatical control; draw on a sufficient vocabulary to express him/herself on most topics pertinent to his/her everyday life and make only a few mistakes leading to misunderstanding.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Format
Classroom sessions are interactive and learner-centered. The syllabus focuses on increasing the language fluency and accuracy as well as covering essential cultural aspects through a variety of tasks and class activities. Students will be asked to work in pairs/groups and complete a variety of language assignments/tasks. This module is pitched at level A2 with elements of level B1.
