Description



Learning Outcomes

1. Produce pieces in German - both in writing and in spoken language - political and social topics covered in class. Express him/herself in a clear and detailed manner, explain/justify his/her opinion/viewpoint on a current issue (essay, discussions, etc.).
2. Understand, extract and summarise a variety of multimodal material on a range of familiar topics that contain high-frequency vocabulary and grammatical structures.
3. Demonstrate (inter)cultural awareness through reflective assignments. Find his/her way around in Germany (e.g. third level institution, business), ask for help, organize life abroad. Employ a sociolinguistic and cultural survival kit for potential time abroad (structure of German universities, internships, red tape, official communication, administration, etc.).
4. Draw on a sufficient range of language to develop arguments, express viewpoints, give clear descriptions, and using some complex sentence forms (grammatical control) to do so (orally and in writing) and different registers depending on the communication genre and medium.
5. Maintain straightforward conversations on familiar topics which may be abstract or concrete.
6. Identify appropriate German-language resources for independent study and demonstrate a sufficient level of digital literacies for a virtual exchange in the German language.

Independent Study120Students prepare the weekly provided material (on Loop). Students use provided sources, additional material to study individually to related and/or relevant subject to progress.
Directed learning30Participation in timetabled small-group online language classes and task-based activities. Participation in regular individual consultations if needed.
Assignment Completion60Students prepare and submit material-based assignments on a regular basis (portfolio, Loop).
Professional Practice40Self-planned interaction with classmates, reading of and listening to authentic material, completion of collaborative tasks in pair and group work.
