Description

This module develops productive and receptive language skills and builds on the preceding Year 1 modules GE107 and GE108. Students will consolidate existing linguistic knowledge and be introduced to a range of new grammatical structures, vocabulary and cultural content. The module is structured around international German-as-a-foreign-language teaching materials but also incorporates some authentic materials relating to current political, social, and cultural issues as appropriate. Materials used in this module are mainly pitched at CEFR level A2/B1.

Learning Outcomes

1. Produce short written texts on familiar topics, i.e. those covered in the module, such as Berufe, Stadtbesichtigung, Gesundheit/Krankheit, Medien, and Klima;
2. Understand and summarise a variety of texts on these topics, including audio texts;
3. Engage in conversations and deliver short presentations on the aforementioned topics;
4. Demonstrate control of a range of grammatical features, including Wechselpräpositionen, Konnektoren, Präteritum and Passiv, in both written and oral language;
5. Demonstrate intercultural awareness with particular reference to German-speaking cultures;
6. Demonstrate effective use of strategies for independent language learning, including use of online resources.
