Description Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the process of examining the anticipated environmental effects of a proposed project or development. This module will introduce the student to the process of Environmental impact assessment and describe the role of EIA in Ireland with particular focus on the legal and procedural mechanisms involved. The course will cover the practicalities of preparing an EIA report, including scoping, the collection, synthesis and dissemination of relevant information. Learning Outcomes 1. Describe and analyse the role of Environmental Impact Assessment as a tool for environmental planning. 2. Compare and contrast the strengths and limitations of Environmental Impact Assessment as a tool for planning and environmental protections. 3. Appraise the rationale, legislative basis, and structure of an Environmental Impact Assessment. 4. Describe and apply the basic framework of principles and practices that can be used to carry out good Environmental Impact Assessments. 5.
