Description International HRM Developments is a module that provides students with a core body of knowledge necessary to understand European diversity with respect to the regulation of labour markets and employment relations regimes especially in the European Union. Students are introduced to the underpinning theories of comparative international labour market regulation and will become familiar with the European Union Institutions; how policy tools and instruments are developed. The students will explore and research the EU Lisbon objectives of making Europe: “the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion". Students will partake in an International Study Trip that will include visits and talks from EU institutions, EU Social Partners and visit to companies to meet with HR practioners and learn of HR strategies and practices as applied in workplaces. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Evaluate the impact of contextual factors (regimes of labour market regulation, employment relations, social dialogue and training) on policy implementation in the field of employment and training. 2. Explore the conceptual apparatus and theoretical debates informing International Human Resource Management practices in Europe and elsewhere. 3. Develop a deep understanding of the nature of European Union employment regulation. 4. Evaluate the impact of contextual factors (different regimes of labour market regulation, employment relations, Social Dialogue and HR practices) on policy implementation in the field of employment relations and the impact on HR professionals within the EU 5. Understand the nature of employability and the processes of knowledge and skills formation as a professional HRM specialist in a transnational context 6. Through participation in the International Study Trip gain real-life experience of an international business trip, obtain first-hand knowledge of EU bodies and their regulatory impact on HRM activities at European company level. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
