Description

This module introduces first year BEd students to a wide range of historical topics representing the broad expertise of the School of History & Geography. Students will be presented with new and exciting research through lectures and assigned readings. In addition, practical sessions will offer an introduction to digital resources that might be used to develop teaching/projects for primary school students. By the end of the module, students will have a better understanding of what history means today.

Learning Outcomes

1. Better understand the practice of history today and how it differs from textbook history.
2. Access a number of online sources for primary historical research.
3. Identify some important trends and changes to the study of history today.
4. Compare and contrast the use of sources to answer different types of historical questions .
5. Critically evaluate online sources for historical research.
