Description This module guides students in systematic reflection on their own learning and personal development during the Year Abroad through the target language. The focus lies on engaging with all types of intercultural experiences during the study abroad period, both in an academic and a non-academic context, whether these occur in the forms of reading and writing texts or direct interaction and communication, with the purpose of consolidating students’ proficiency as independent language users with a career as a language professional in mind. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Use knowledge of socio-cultural conventions in the target culture in order to establish a consensus on how to proceed in a particular situation. 2. Analyse and clarify misunderstandings and misinterpretations during intercultural encounters. 3. Understand and reflect critically on presentations, news items, articles, books and other media in the target language. 4. Relay the main points contained in propositionally complex texts written in the target language within the student's fields of professional, academic and personal interest. 5. Summarise the main points made in authentic, longer, complex spoken texts or discussions in the target language on subjects of current interest, including the student's fields of special interest. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
