Description

This module will introduce students to the study of Chinese politics and foreign policy. It will address debates over the rise of China, China’s growing involvement in international politics and global security. It will analyse the prominent features of the single-party rule by the Chinese Communist Party and explores major political and governance issues confronting the regime. This module will provide students with an understanding of the sources of conflict and cooperation in China’s domestic and foreign relations.

Learning Outcomes

1. Recognise the major themes, debates, developments, and structures within Chinese politics and foreign policy
2. Use theoretical approaches to study Chinese politics and foreign policy.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of key Chinese politics and foreign policy issues at the national and international levels
4. Analyse case studies of Chinese political or foreign policy decisions or events
5. Analyse the current rivalry between China and other major powers for influence
