Description

The module builds on students’ skills, stylistic knowledge, musical interpretation and engagement in instrumental and/or vocal performance. Students take individual lessons on an instrument (and/or voice) and in a musical style (or styles) of their choice. Participation is facilitated through organisation of concerts and workshops.

Learning Outcomes

1. Develop and display technical competence equivalent to a lower intermediate grade or higher on an individual instrument/voice in a chosen music style (or styles)
2. Perform an individual programme of 8-10 minutes in duration
3. Develop approaches to performance practice and presentation
4. Display stylistic knowledge and interpretive skills appropriate to LO 1, 2 and 3
5. Develop understanding of vocal and choral performance
6. Develop understanding of ensemble performance across varied genres
7. Develop an appreciation and understanding of varied concert performances

Individual Lessons
One-to-one tuition with external professional tutors (instrumental and/or vocal)

Consultations, including review of progress with Music faculty
Music faculty offer advice on choice of individual instrumental/vocal studies and on suitable tutors; mid-year review of progress; advice on programme presentation

Workshops on aspects of performance rehearsal and presentation
Small group activities on-campus (or equivalent)

Concerts
Lectures on ensembles, genres and programme content; concert attendance (live or streamed)
