Description The first part of this module aims to equip stuidents with the technical, written and presentational skills required to undertake a project . Students will participate in the following activities : .Lab Session (two hours a week) .Library Tour .Presentation Practice. In the second part of the module , students will put the above into practice in the context of a specific problem under the guidance of their supervisor . | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Source material relevant to a research project 2. Extract and digest the main scientific ideas contained in a piece of published research 3. Supply the technical details missing from the main source article , including finding appropriate references for the relevant results and concepts 4. Assess the limitations of the specific approach followed 5. Take responsibility for the progression of their work under the guidance of a supervisor 6. Write a well-structured report containing a suitable balance between broad overview and technical details 7. Produce documents using Latex 8. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of grammar and clear writing in written reports 9. Demonstrate an understanding of the conventions and notation used in mathematical writing and of the importance of logical argument 10. Design and produce good presentation slides 11.
