Description

To examine the impact of ageing demography on health and social care systems nationally and internationally To assess the evidence base for models of care delivery for older adults across care environments which lead to improved health and social care outcomes and positive patient experiences

Learning Outcomes

1. Critically review the impact of ageing demography on health and social care across a range of care contexts
2. Critically analyse the evidence base for integrated and multidisciplinary models of health and social care and assess their impact on quality of care
3. Evaluate key contemporary issues in relation to the health and social care of older adults
4. Critically discuss the role of patient/family/carer/user involvement in the care of older adults and evaluation of the experience of care
5. Explore the challenges to providing culturally competent care to diverse groups of older adults

Heterogeneity of older adults
Recognition of the diversity of need according to individual value systems which may be based on racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, religious or minority group affiliation

Reflective practice
Reflection through blogging of the care provider/advocate role with the older adult/family/carer during their engagement with health and social care
