Description

This module provides the nurse with an opportunity to appraise evidence relating to pain prevention and management and apply evidence based nursing practice to the prevention and management of paediatric pain.

Learning Outcomes

1. Integrate knowledge of paediatric pain from different discipline areas such as the biological, psychological, sociological, pharmacological sciences.
2. Evaluate contemporary issues, needs and challenges in the management of acute and chronic paediatric pain, giving due consideration to specific needs of the various sociocultural groups.
3. Critique approaches to assessing and managing paediatric pain.
4. Apply evidence based knowledge to paediatric pain management in order to ensure the clinical efficacy within contemporary practice
5. Critically debate and develop alternative strategies relating to the provision of effective paediatric pain management practices in an effort to and resolve complex clinical problems through critical reasoning
