Description

This is a blended learning module which seeks to raise awareness of, and encourage, personal agility. Learners will be exposed to a variety of tools and techniques assessing learning styles and approaches, as well as resources and exercises on building resilience. The module will focus on understanding and contributing to teams, as well as managing performance and communication and feedback. Underpinning the module learning are opportunities for peer mentoring, actor facilitated role playing as well as designing and delivering a charity fund-raising initiative. This module is the second of three Transform modules all of which feed into the on-going development of a virtual CV/e-portfolio.

Learning Outcomes

1. identify the competencies required to work effectively as a member of a team
2. gain an understanding and experience of collaboration (including via technology)
3. understand and evaluate various media for communication and presentation
4. understand the role and significance of personal development via networks and feedback

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Personal Agility
Learning Styles, job demands and resources. Exploring resilience and dealing with change, set-backs and career shocks.

Team Dynamics
Significance of teamwork. Understanding varying team roles. Self-assessment of personal contribution to a team (Belbin and reflection exercise). Virtual and cross-cultural teamwork. Role modelling behaviour.

Managing Performance
Managing resources, flow, and conflict. Planning to meet goals, scenario planning and re-planning in light of unforeseen developments. Digital auditing and exploring the utility of digital tools in support of collaboration.

Communication & Feedback
Finding and using one’s voice. Types of knowledge and means of exchange (e.g. tacit versus explicit). Communication via different media. Social intelligence. Peer to peer mentoring

Career Capacity building
Developing potential and skills. Understanding the role and impact of networks. Appreciating the value and being open to feedback. Preparing for work placement
