Description
This module introduces students to the theory of sport and injury psychology and relevant psychosocial interventions. Students will also be introduced to general counseling and referral skills.

Learning Outcomes
1. Summarise and critically analyse key psychological theories and models from the area of sport and injury psychology. 2. Examine psychological interventions in post-injury sport health care 3. Demonstrate the ability to apply basic counseling and referral skills in a clinically sensitive manner.

In Class Test | This short answer quiz will be 30-minutes long and will take place during the module. The aim of this quiz is to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of basic concepts. This quiz will be on topics covered in the first 6 weeks of the module. There will be no negative marking associated with this quiz. | 20% | Week 6 | Assignment | In this assignment, students will be required to write a 1,500-word assignment (excluding references) discussing the theory surrounding susceptibility to injury and stress management strategies to prevent injury. This assignment must be submitted online via Loop. Further details will be provided during class. | 50% | Week 11 | Group presentation | For this assessment you will be allocated into a group with four or five other class members. They will work together to prepare, submit and present a single powerpoint presentation. This assessment is designed to assess students’ understanding of advanced concepts associated with injury psychology and their applied application of this knowledge.
