Description

This module offers an introduction to a number of philosophical voices from outside of the “Western” tradition, through a close reading of a selection of representative primary and secondary texts. The module complements and builds upon the knowledge gained in previous philosophy modules and seeks to expand this beyond the traditional boundaries.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate familiarity with a number of non-Western thinkers and ways of thinking
2. Problematize concepts such as Western and Western philosophy
3. Understand how a number of cultures have thought systematically about fundamental questions of truth and ways of being in the world
4. Show a wider understanding of the development of philosophical thought and the history of ideas
