Description The ZH3002 module is designed for students who have a basic understanding of Mandarin Chinese and wish to further develop their language skills. This module aims to consolidate the students' foundation in Chinese language and expand their communicative abilities in everyday situations (such as daily routine, direction inquiries, taking taxi, hotel bookings). Through interactive activities and cultural exploration, students will enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students learn to read and write Chinese characters, and be able to reflect on how culture and language interact in China. By the end of this module, students are expected to achieve proficiency at the A1.2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Understand a variety of texts that follow a predictable pattern such as advertisements, menus, maps, and timetables, demonstrating comprehension of basic information and key details. 2. Demonstrate effective oral skills in a range of social situations such as engaging in conversations about daily routines, making direction inquiries, and expressing personal preferences. 3. Produce simple and coherent texts in writing on matters of personal relevance using simple words and basic expressions. Engage in basic online social communication, such as writing simple messages for special occasions and sending texts in Chinese on instant messaging apps. 4. Develop accurate pronunciation of Chinese sounds and tones with increasing awareness of common errors and strategies for improvement. 5. Demonstrate awareness and understanding of basic Chinese cultural customs, traditions, and etiquette. Recognise cultural differences and similarities between Chinese culture and the students' own culture. 6. Develop strategies for self-directed language learning, including using language learning resources, practicing outside of class, and seeking opportunities for language immersion. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
