Description The purpose of this module is to help students develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Chinese through diverse topics. It also helps students to develop further understanding of Chinese culture and society in a global context. In addition to the enhancement of their subject knowledge, students are also encouraged to further enhance their independent and interdependent learning skills. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Express ideas clearly both orally and in writing through Chinese using complex grammatical structures and appropriate register. 2. Extract information from a variety of paper based and online sources. 3. Demonstrate ability to interact with native speakers in a relatively comfortable and clearly participatory fashion. 4. Express personal opinions orally and in writing in an appropriate register and style. 5. Interactive and engaging topicsThe teaching and learning will centre around topics and themes presented in the master textbook with the inclusion of multimodal resources beyond, which are closely related to the topics. Topics are highly engaging as it involves a comparison of Chinese and Irish/European contexts with a focus on cultural and societal aspects.Interactive on site synchronous lectures and tutorialsStudents will attend lectures and tutorials and engage in a variety of learning activities such as quizzes, multimedia presentations, group discussions, debating and role-play, etc.Independent learningStudents will engage in structured and supported independent learning activities such as interaction with learning resources, assignment completion and feedback.
