Description This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the tools used by managers in the creation and management of the IT enabled enterprise. On completion of this module students will: have an in-depth knowledge of how to apply information technology to create more efficient and effective enterprises and how information technology can be used to create sustainable competitive advantage. Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the basic principles and theories of the information systems field. 2. Describe and explain the types/roles of business information systems in modern enterprises. Including: ERP, HR, Finance, MRP, SCM and CRM. 3. Describe different types of information reporting systems including business intelligence and executive information systems. 4. Describe the principal tools and technologies employed to improve business performance and decision-making. 5. Explain how business intelligence and business analytics supports decision-making. 6. Identify the ethical/social challenges posed by information systems. 7. Describe the role of knowledge bases and knowledge management in business improvement. 8. Locate, acquire, analyse and synthesise materials from a range of sources that help us understand the digital enterprise, 9. Review and compare different approaches for integrating new and old legacy systems. 10. Identify the range of legal and regulatory issues affecting information systems. 11. Discuss and review the range of issues involved in the security of information systems. 12. Explain the importance of data-mining, data analytics and ‘big-data’ to today’s digital enterprise. 13. Specify the challenges of providing remote access to information systems for an ever more demanding and mobile work force. 14.
