Description

The Applied Business Project is a module offered by Dublin City University Business School as part of the postgraduate learning experience. It is a two-semester module (January – July). It allows postgraduate students to exercise their critical thinking, research, problem-solving, and team project management skills while collaborating with a partnering organisation. By exposing the student to a real-world problem, the conceptual and theoretical work covered within the master's programmes acts as a scaffold to shape the project's outputs.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify and critically analyse an area of concern to a real-life business organisation.
2. Develop a realistic business problem aligned with an overarching aim, and set of specific sub- objectives to guide the project's deliverables and milestones.
3. Systematically synthesise and critically interpret the relevant academic and practitioner literature concerning the business issue.
4. Critically evaluate various methodological approaches for practitioner-based research and justify using the most appropriate research approach for the issue.
5. Evaluate a range of qualitative and quantitative research tools and techniques to address client-specific aims and objectives whilst justifying each methodological approach used.
6. Synthesise, interpret and communicate practice-based research to elucidate client-focused recommendations to inform the business problem
7. Derive a set of tangible and realistic recommendations for the industry partner based on the collected data alongside industry best practices to address the core organisational issue
8. Communicate flexibly and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders involved in a practice- based research project.
