Description

The aim of this module is designed to enable the student to develop an understanding of the basic structure and function of human cells and how they communicate to form tissues, organs and organ systems.

Learning Outcomes

1. Appreciate the structure and function of human cells.
2. Demonstrate an ability to distinguish between Human Eukaryotic cells and Prokaryotic cells.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the major macromolecules in the body and provide a knowledge of the building blocks of carbohydrates, fats, nucleic acids and proteins
4. Identify the major organelles in the cell and consider their role in the provision of energy, structure etc., to the organism
5. Appreciate the nature and behaviour of heredity determinants
6. Demonstrate a knowledge of how cells amalgamate to form tissues
7. Appreciate the four major tissue types in the body.
8. Exhibit an understanding of the fundamentals of medical microbiology
