Current Academic Year 2025 - 2026

Module Title Industrial Bioprocess Development Laboratory
Module Code BTE1047
Faculty Biotechnology School Science & Health
NFQ level 8 Credit Rating 7.5
Description

This module will offer students an insight into industrial bioprocess development using state-of-the-art software tools to design a bioprocess. Then students will implement their process in the laboratory with industrial experts demonstrating the newest technology applied to Biopharma and food production. This is an immersive module using industry and academic training including lectures and laboratory components.

Learning Outcomes

1. The student will gain insight to using Design of Experiment to develop media recipies for an industrial bioprocess.
2. The student will be able to demonstrate the practical skills required to interact with bench-scale bioprocessing equipment necessary to fully run an up-stream and down-stream bioprocess.
3. The student will attain the skills required to analysise a bench-scale bioprocess in terms of process analythical tools and off-line on the bench analysis.
4. The students will demonstrate the ability to find, access and organise appropriate information and resources in digital environments.
5. The student will critically evaluate the reliability, relevance, and accuracy of online information, mindful of misinformation and disinformation.
6. Produce and disseminate digital outputs in different formats, showing an awareness of authorship responsibilities.
7. Demonstrate how to act responsibily when using digital technologies, with due regard for oneself and others.
8. The student will demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with emerging technologies and their applications in order to improve and update one's digital competence.
