Description This module is designed for students who have attained an elementary proficiency level in Chinese language. It focuses on enhancing their ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written Chinese. Through systematic instruction, interactive activities, and authentic materials, students will develop skills that will help them understand and critically evaluate information around Chinese culture and produce spoken and written texts directed to facilitate the understanding of cultural conventions to Irish speaking audiences. All teaching materials in this module are designed at the A2.2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the overall meaning of short texts from a variety of simple texts dealing with everyday activities and social interactions, being able to derive the probable meaning of unknown words/signs from the context 2. Demonstrate effective oral skills in a range of social situations (e.g presentation or description of people, living or working conditions, daily routines and basic past activities and personal experiences). 3. Produce short texts on matters of personal relevance e.g. write short basic descriptions of events, activities and personal experiences using present and past simple. Also, engage in basic social communication online (Sharing news and making/confirming arrangements to meet). 4. Demonstrate control of basic structures of the language as well as increasingly complex grammatical structures. 5. Gain cultural insights and awareness through the exploration of Chinese customs, traditions, and contemporary issues. 6.
