Description

This module introduces students to enterprise information systems and the IT infrastructure that supports modern organisations. It covers business information systems such as ERP, Business Intelligence, and e-commerce, alongside practical skills in configuring virtual machines, Linux systems, enterprise services (DHCP, DNS, HTTP, SSH), networking, routing, security, and troubleshooting. Students will develop both technical and analytical skills to design and manage integrated enterprise solutions that align with business requirements.

Learning Outcomes

1. Explain how enterprise information systems (e.g., ERP, BI, e-commerce) support organisational processes and decision-making.
2. Analyse business requirements and map them to appropriate IT infrastructure and system solutions.
3. Configure and manage virtualised environments and enterprise services, including DHCP, DNS, HTTP, and SSH.
4. Implement and troubleshoot network configurations, including routing, traffic analysis, and security mechanisms.
5. Design integrated enterprise solutions that align system requirements with infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and business alignment.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Enterprise Information Systems
Understanding how ERP, BI, e-commerce, B2B/B2C systems, and organisational communication tools support business processes and decision-making.

Enterprise Server Setup and Services
Installation, configuration, and management of enterprise server software in virtualised environments. Practical setup and administration of core services including HTTP, DNS, DHCP, and Firewall, with emphasis on understanding the purpose, configuration, and integration of each service within enterprise systems.

In-Class Learning Activities
Weekly quizzes, class discussions, and case studies on current IT developments. Research on current enterprise software offerings and infrastructure solutions.
