Description

This module will examine the concept of social entrepreneurship and how it applies to Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). Challenges of a neo-liberalist agenda on social entrepreneurship in ECEC will be discussed. The module will explore a range of management theories and styles and examine their effectiveness when managing an ECEC setting. The skills and competencies of a manager including, operations management, human resources, marketing and finance will be explored in detail. The administration required to ensure adherence to funding requirements and compliance to current legislation will be reviewed. Implementing the profession's ethical principles and relevant codes of practice are considered.

Learning Outcomes

1. Articulate the concept of social entrepreneurship within the Early Childhood Education and Care context.
2. Critically reflect on the challenges of sustaining a social entrepreneurship model in a neo-liberalist society.
3. Explore a range of management theories and critically evaluate their effectiveness when applied to an ECEC setting
4. Demonstrate an understanding of roles, responsibilities and functions of the manager within an ECEC setting with particular reference to the policy and legislative context.
5. Make appropriate professional choices in relation to promoting the well-being and welfare of children, educators and parents in an ECEC setting
