Description

This module will scaffold students’ engagement with contemporary issues in Social Psychology and Psychological Wellbeing such that they can apply this to their academic and professional roles as Education students. The aim of the module is to increase the students’ knowledge and critical awareness of the contemporary field of wellbeing across the lifespan, including research approaches relevant to the area and the current evidence base. The module will equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle complexity in the area in a developmental and integrative manner. The module will cover the pertinent theories and research in social Psychology and wellbeing and support students in critical evaluation of same. A key objective of the module is to prepare students to be critical knowledgeable users as they engage with psychological concepts as applied to themselves and others.

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the key concepts and controversies at the forefront Social Psychology and Wellbeing
2. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of social contexts and domains of development and Wellbeing
3. Show a critical awareness of the current challenges in Wellbeing and Social Psychology
4. Handle the complexity of the current state of research and scholarship in the field and formulate judgements on current issues
5. Apply their knowledge and critical evaluation skills in social psychology and wellbeing to the educational context
