Description

This module aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and skills of understanding and conducting a comprehensive literature review. It enables students to critically reflect,evaluate and synthesise from a variety of sources in academic literature. This provides students with literature review skills that are academic, rigorous and valid in an education and/or training context. In addition students are required to research and present a detailed project proposal and a rationale for the proposed methodology.

Learning Outcomes

1. Conduct a comprehensive Literature Review within one or more of the following themes in education and/ or training - equality, access, inclusion, values, identity, intercultural learning, technology-enabled learning

3. Demonstrate the ability to write a literature review using a broad variety of literature and policy documents as part of a literature review chapter for a research project.

AssignmentPart 1: Section A: Present a short Research Proposal outlining the research that you will pursue in Semester 2, including the research question, the rationale for the research, the proposed research methodology that you will use and an outline of the research context. It would be useful also to include a section on how you think this research will benefit you as a researcher. (Word count: 1000 words) Section B: Outline the purposes and benefits of a Literature Review as part of an academic research project or dissertation. Please refer to the readings on Literature that you have received at the beginning of the module. (Word count: 1000 words).40%Week 9
AssignmentPart 2: Complete a Literature Review related to the specific research interest that you have identified in your Research Proposal. This should include a comprehensive review of the literature in this research field, a detailed account as to why you have chosen to focus on specific aspects of literature and how these will support and scaffold the actual research, a critique of the literature outlining your own views on the concepts expressed in the literature and a discussion as to how the literature has identified gaps in the research field that your work might address.(Word count: 3000 words ).60%Week 9

RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module.
RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element.
