Description This module has two main aims. Firstly, the module aims to assist students in becoming fully autonomous language learners and to enable them to achieve the level of written and oral fluency and cultural awareness that will be required of them in an intercultural workplace at home or abroad. It also aims to further develop the students’ ability to apply a range of transferable skills such as time management, team work, project management, oral presentation skills, and report-writing. Secondly, this module aims to develop students’ knowledge of the social, political, and economic phenomenon of globalisation, and related ethical conflicts. This module will enable the student to understand the complex nature of the economic, social, and political phenomena that underpin our institutions and societies; to recognise, identify, and evaluate ethical conflicts in business; and understand what constitutes ethical and unethical practice. Topics that will be discussed include, amongst others, consumerism, environmental impact, threats to linguistic diversity, sustainable development, and ethical tourism. In order to develop the aforementioned skills, students will learn through Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) method, and critical pedagogy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes 1. Understand in detail complex information from articles and reports concerned with business and/or ethical issues in which the writers adopt particular viewpoints. 2. Write clear, well-structured texts on business and ethical topics, synthesizing and evaluating information and arguments on the one hand while putting forward reasoned arguments/points of view on the other hand. 3. Demonstrate a clear understanding of complex issues relating to course topics, with appropriate highlighting of significant points and relevant supporting detail. 4. Demonstrate a good command of complex grammatical structures and of a broad lexical repertoire, including business-specific language and ethical topics, allowing gaps to be readily overcome with circumlocutions. 5. Give a clear, detailed oral presentation on a range of subjects and explain various viewpoints. 6. Source credible, reliable and complex information in the target language on a range of topics, using a variety of online media and contacts. 7.
