Module Title Sustainability Journey 1 - Awareness & Skills
Module Code GEO1002 (ITS: GY114)
Faculty History & Geography School Humanities & Social Sciences
NFQ level 8 Credit Rating 5
Description

E-portfolios are recognised as an innovative learning and personal development tool for undergraduate students to learn about achievement of important course, academic and personal outcomes over time, to make connections among separate parts of the curriculum, to gain insights leading to improvement, and to develop distinct identities as individuals and as learners. Moreover, they can help students plan their own academic pathways as they begin to understand their own personal, academic and career strengths and weaknesses. Students will develop their own ePortfolio, an online tool which allows you to keep track of your personal, professional and academic development throughout the course of your first year studies. This will be used as a means of reflection on your development over the course of the entire academic year, linking learnings from across modules to critically reflect on your sustainability journey in year one of your undergraduate degree. Students will use e-portfolios to gather their work, reflect upon strengths and weaknesses, and strive to improve on individual skills over the course of their degree programme.

Learning Outcomes

1. Build their personal and academic identities by completing complex projects across multiple areas and reflecting on their capabilities and progress during the year
2. Integrate and connect learnings across courses and over time
3. Develop self-assessment abilities to judge the quality of their own work using the same criteria experts use
4. Plan their own academic and career pathways as they identify what they know and what they still need to learn
5. Develop digital learning and literacy skills through a 100% online learning and assessment environment
