Description
This module will build on the foundations laid by GER1007 and GER1008 to deepen the examination of German literature in its cultural and historical contexts, and to advance the reading and analytical skills required using extended German-language literary texts, primarily novels, as well as a film in the German language. The module is delivered through German and English to examine ideas in 20th- and / or 21st-century German literature and society at particular points in time and to develop further the reading and analytical skills required to conduct academic study of the target culture.
|
Learning Outcomes
1. Analyse and interpret German-language literary texts and films on the basis of close reading. (Draw informed and logical conclusions from information.) 2. Critically analyse and discuss, both in German and English, works covered in class, using appropriate vocabulary and linguistic knowledge, with reference to academic secondary sources, where appropriate. (Present ideas, arguments and information in a coherent and clear manner.) 3. Critically reflect on links between the production and reception of literary texts and societal developments. 4. Recognise and analyse the intertextual links between various literary and filmic works of art.
