Description

This module is taught entirely through German. It aims to develop students's language competence and fluency in written and spoken production, at an upper-intermediate level (B2.1). Students will be practising a range of language skills that they may apply in their professional life.All teaching materials in this module are designed at the B2.1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand main points and important details in stories and other narratives from authentic textual and audio-visual sources on selected topics made for a wider audience.
2. Communicate fluently and confident on both familiar topics and some beyond their immediate personal experience, such as societal developments and cultural production in the German-speaking countries. Express their own point of views on these matters, provided that the interlocutor makes an effort to support understanding.
3. Produce straightforward connected texts on a variety of subjects related to the student field of interest, being able to link a series of shorter elements into a linear sequence. Develop the knowledge of text type conventions and sociolinguistic appropriateness in a variety of texts such as personal email, online written interactions, reports etc.
4. Demonstrate a good understanding of high-intermediate language and structures in order to communicate efficiently in a variety of contexts. Draw on relevant and appropriate vocabulary to express him-herself on topics concerning German-speaking culture, popular culture, and related topics.
5. Demonstrate you can identify and interpret cultural cues appropriately in the target culture.
6. Make adequate use of digital technologies to support self-regulated learning processes, i.e. to monitor and reflect on student own learning, providing evidence of progress.
