Description

This module will develop participants' leadership knowledge skills and attitudes in order to competently facilitate personal, group & community development.

Learning Outcomes

1. 1. have a detailed knowledge and understanding of a variety of underpinning philosophies of psychology, sociology and community development in relation to self and group systems
2. 2. have a good understanding and be able to assess different styles of leadership in relation to individual abilities and competencies in judgement and decision making
3. 3. be able to analyse interpersonal & leadership skills and processes and propose solutions that are effective in groups and community engagement
4. 4. have an appreciation of the necessity and effectiveness of community resources in relation to self and community development
5. have a good understanding of the responsibility of the individual and group in supporting/facilitating community learning and development
6. 6. critically assess the attributes of and analyse the rationale for citizens to engage in lifelong learning as an empowering choice.

Professional Portfolio	(B) Each learner will write up a reflective portfolio of their community engagement based on 3 short essays critically reflecting on specific learning outcomes achieved. They will use Gibbs Reflective cycle for each, or another reflective tool by negotiation with module co-ordinator	80%	n/a
Presentation	Each student will create a two minute audio visual presentation that gives their peers an understanding of how they have been engaging with a community group in meaningfully helping them achieve their objectives. The preferred medium for this presentation is visual recording, though other forms can be utlilised in negotiation with module coordinator. Informed consent will be required where any community group representatives are displayed in the presentations.	20%	Week 12

Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories; RC1: A resit is available for both^* components of the module. RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module. RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element. ^* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a coursework/summative examination split; where the module is 100% coursework, there will also be a resit of the assessment
