Description

This module will look at global history since the 20th century, which is considered by many to be a century of unprecedented violence. This course examines different regions, including North America, Africa, and the Indian sub-continent, as a region which gained independence in 1947 and has gone on to become a modern global power. This course considers the violence and genocide of the 20th century as extensions of 'scientific' racism and extreme nationalism, which continue to have profound impacts in our world today.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate comprehension of some key themes in global history of the twentieth century
2. Evaluate the historical significance of global history as an interpretive lens.
3. Engage critically with a wide range of historical sources, primary and secondary.
4. Access and critically evaluate sources in print and online.
5. Demonstrate critical and analytical skills through written assignments.
