Description

This module will examine a special topic in Irish history to be determined by the module coordinator. The special topic may change from year to year depending on staff availability.

Learning Outcomes

1. LO1 – Demonstrate detailed and critical knowledge and understanding of a designated special topic in Irish history.
2. LO2 – Identify and assess contested historical perspectives and the changing nature of historical interpretation.
3. LO3 – Evaluate in a critical manner primary source materials and secondary literature.
4. LO4 – Formulate research questions, deploy effective research methodologies and embark on independent research.
5. LO5 – Construct and communicate concise, original and well-supported arguments based on primary and secondary source research both orally and in writing.
6. LO6 – Deepen critical and independent thinking, analysis, perception and judgement.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Lectures and seminars
The module will consist of eleven two-hour sessions taught through a combination of lectures and interactive seminars. The content will depend on the special topic in Irish history to be determined by the module coordinator each year.
