Description

To allow a BCL student to spend his/her third year in a host University as part of the ERASMUS/SOCRATES exchange programme, including:- Faculty of Law, University of Valencia(Spain),Faculty of Law, University of Warsaw (Poland) and Faculty of Law, University of Stirling (Scotland). This year abroad provides students with the opportunity to obtain additional critical perspectives on law. Students undertake 50 credits during the year abroad. The cumulative result of these 50 credits is recorded as either a Pass or Fail under module code LG366. A further 10 credits will be for an e-portfolio.Students are required to submit a monthly journal entry on Loop, reflecting on the learning outcomes and offering a final reflection at the end of the year abroad. Module LG366 is a code used for Administrative convenience to capture this Pass or Fail result. Modules are drawn from the wide range of law modules offered by partner universities and are selected within certain established criteria. Module choices and the student’s overall number of hours/ credits are approved by the Year Abroad Coordinator and recorded in a Learning Agreement.

1. Demonstrate an increased understanding of law and the role of law in society
2. Study law and a legal system of another State
3. Understand the guiding principles and processes of another legal system
4. Enhance their legal reasoning and research skills
5. Be able to compare and contrast different legal systems and their approaches to similar societal issues and problems
6. Reflect on the experience of the year abroad including challenges, difficulties, opportunities and requirements
7. Demonstrate an understanding of themselves and their ability to cope and adapt in an unfamiliar learning environment.
