Description

This module introduces students to stylistic and compositional aspects of photography. It focuses on landscape, documentary and creative styles of photography. It introduces students to key photographers in these areas. It introduces students to basic visual culture concepts including gendered and political ways of seeing, in order to develop critical visual skills. It introduces foundational skills in digital photography pertaining to composition, exposure and focusing. It introduces technical competency in the use of natural light. It enables students to apply these conceptual, stylistic and technical competencies in a portfolio of work.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge and critical evaluations of photography
2. Create photographic works that demonstrate a competency in photographic composition
3. Create photographic works that demonstrate core technical competencies in photography, pertaining to exposure and focusing.
4. Demonstrate a knowledge of documentary, landscape, and/or experimental styles of photography
5. Demonstrate critical reflection on a body of work created during the module
