Learning Outcomes

1. Critically appraise the purposes of assessment – formative, summative, diagnostic, evaluative
2. Examine and review the principles of informal and formal assessment, including understanding of standard score, percentiles, confidence intervals, and importance of adherence to manual instructions
3. Develop, review and reflect on informal approaches to assessment – observations, checklists Informal screening tests, informal assessment measures and observational schedules
4. Demonstrate competence in assessing reading – phonological processes, decoding, comprehension, fluency
5. Assess the learner’s knowledge, skills and attitude to literacy
6. Carry out two assessments of learner(s) in own work setting –according to guidelines and criteria (AMBDA)
7. Create an individualised profile of the learner including strengths, needs, priority learning needs
8. Plan recommendations and appropriate lessons to support the learner
9. Write a report containing the individualised assessment and recommendations

Written Exam2 x Literacy Reports Teachers carry out two sets of assessments with two different students with literacy difficulties to include rationale for selection, selection of materials and preparation for assessment, and two written reports of the assessment, analysis of student response, interpretation and results and outcomes as well a list of recommendations (school, class, SET and home where relevant). Two hours observation of assessment is required (BDA Certification). A one-hour video is required of the assessment and should accompany the diagnostic literacy reports. (BDA Certification)0%n/a

RC1: A resit is available for both* components of the module.
RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module.
RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element.
