Description

The module aims to acquaint students with the objectives and functions of the EU, with its historical and future developments, and teach students about the manner in which the objectives of the EU are pursued. Students will also learn about the nature of rights conferred by the Treaties of the European Union. The module explores the tension between the various economic, political, social and cultural facets of EU law

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe the history and development of European integration
2. Describe and critically assess the constitutional basis of the EU, the function of each EU institutional body and the law making process.
3. Critically analyse the impact of EU law on national legal systems and how the systems of EU and national law interact
4. Critically assess the social, economic and political perspectives that underlie developments in EU law.
5. Identify and critically appraise the fundamental freedom of movement principles that underlie EU Law
6. Solve legal problems by reference to case law and legislation
