Description

The purpose of this module is to introduce students to various approaches to text analysis. Students will become familiar with different text types such as argumentative and descriptive texts, as well as texts from different genres including academic discourse. Students will develop a critical attitude towards different text types by applying various methods to analyse texts. Students are expected to attend lectures and carry out self-self-study to acquire knowledge of contemporary approaches to text analysis and how they can be best used for different types of texts. At the end of the module, students will be able to identify the characteristics of texts from different genres and discuss these features in theoretical terms.

1. Identify textual features in English texts from various genres.
2. Describe and compare the features of texts from various genres.
3. Apply, at a basic level, various methods to analyse texts from a range of different domains.
4. Demonstrate sound understanding of theoretical concepts and approaches to textual analysis
