1. To further the development of students' competencies in the planning and development of a particular mixed media 'content' product or service - in an emerging media form 2. To extend and enhance the overall learning approach commenced in the taught modules of this programme. 3. To promote a team-based learning and a 'learning by- doing' approach to the further development of professional skills and practices in line with the students' own interests/competencies related to the effective development of digital media content products/services

Digital ProjectMajor Project: In keeping with the student-centred learning and learning-by-doing philosophy underpinning the M.Sc Emerging Media programme, students will create and produce a multimedia product or service. The Major Project comprises of two elements 1: the practice element consists fo a a new piece of media created by the project group. 2: a written report thesis which serves as a record of the definition, intention, research background and evolution of the Major Project. It is to be delivered at the same time as the Major Project. The log's primary purpose is to assist in the evaluation and assessment of the major project/thesis by the internal and external evaluators.100%n/a

Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories;
RC1: A resit is available for both* components of the module.
RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module.
RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element.

* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a coursework/summative examination split; where the module is 100% coursework, there will also be a resit of the assessment

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Major Project Evaluation:
1) The overall creativity and innovative features of the project's conceptualisation and design. 2) The technical implementation of the digital content project. Including the effective utilisation/adoption of appropriate technical facilities, tools and applications as well as the creative combination/mix of relevant media forms/components. 3) The coherence and effectiveness of the emerging media project's textual strategies, design and form, especially with respect to the communication of its core message/content as well as its orientation towards the target audience and uses/users or 'market' (or niche). 4) The manner/extent to which the project's construction and implementation is informed by due regard to professional publishing practices, legal considerations (e.g. copyright), user demand/consumption trends and/or marketing strategies relevant to such digital media content products/services. 5) The manner and extent to which students utilise, extend and further develop the core technical and other competencies introduced in the taught modules on this programme.
